Sports Injuries

Whatever the sport an injury can be very frustrating to the individual as it can lead to a period away from training or competing.

Variation between injuries is huge, but almost all will require a period of rest and inflammation reduction, followed by a period of rehabilitation to return to pre-injury condition, and to prevent re-occurrence.

Aquatic physiotherapy can be used from the very early stages to help regain movement, flexibility and reduce inflammation right through to regaining strength and cardiovascular fitness at the end stage of rehabilitation. There is good research to show earlier reduction in swelling, return of full movement and balance, as well as being able to maintain cardiovascular fitness versus land rehabilitation only.

Aquatic physiotherapy (hydrotherapy) involves both exercises and therapeutic handling techniques within warm water 34-35°C. The properties of water and physiological effects of immersion on the body provide benefits over what land treatment can offer.
