Neurological conditions

E.g. Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Motor Neurone Disease, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Muscular dystrophy and Functional Neurological Disorder

Neurological conditions often have changes in muscle tone, flexibility, coordination and balance which therefore can cause difficulties with everyday functional activities. There can also be pain and anxiety. The warm water helps to reduce high muscle tone, improve flexibility and provide a safe environment to work on function. Handling and mobility is much easier for both therapist and patient in the water.

Aquatic physiotherapy (hydrotherapy) involves both exercises and therapeutic handling techniques within warm water 34-35°C. The properties of water and physiological effects of immersion on the body provide benefits over what land treatment can offer.
